CORREOS renovates its fleet of official vehicles with the purchase of 1,000 motorbikes

- Every day about 8,000 postmen carry out their work in this kind of vehicle, covering more than 25 Million kilometers per year for delivering around 4,000 Million yearly shipments
CORREOS has renewed its fleet of official vehicles with the purchase of 1,000 new motorbikes which will replace the same number of units with which it operates now and which have already completed their life cycle. This purchase has entailed a 1,428,000 Euros (plus VAT) investment, and is part of the set of measures which the post company is taking for renewing in an homogenous way its fleet of official vehicles and reinforcing the mail distribution service carried out with vehicles.
The model chosen is the Peugeot Tweet 125 Pro motorbike, which CORREOS has already purchased before. The experience of CORREOS’ workers with this type of motorbike has made it possible to ask the supplier for some changes in the model for adapting its performance even more to the daily mail delivery service.
The new units present, together with an increased safety and comfort, a reduced fuel consumption and less polluting emissions. This initiative joins other which have been developed by the post company in order to reduce as far as possible the environmental impact of its activity.
CORREOS will receive the 1,000 motorbikes during the next three months. After the summer will be distributed the 145 units allocated to Madrid, the 80 to Barcelona, and the 90 units earmarked for the Balearic and the Canary Islands. It is envisaged that all will have been distributed in all the provinces by the end of November.
CORREOS’ fleet of official vehicles is made up by more than 13,000 units, of which around 10,000 are motorbikes. Around 8,000 postmen carry out their work in this kind of vehicle and cover more than 25 Million kilometers each year for delivering around 4,000 Million shipments per year.
