CORREOS has been awarded this week by Fundación Corresponsables in the “7th series of the Premios Corresponsables” of the prize within the category for Administrations and state-owned entities for its most innovative and sustainable initiatives within the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) field; with the “Environmental Impact Calculator”, the postal company has been awarded this week the prize and besides, it has been on the final within the Communication category, which was voted by the social networks.

A total of twenty initiatives were submitted by different companies and organizations have won a prize on CSR and responsible communication, and 72 finalists were identified among them. In this 7th series, CORREOS competed against 432 initiatives submitted by organizations from nine countries, 306 of which were Spanish organizations, while the remainder were from Latin American countries.

For selecting the winners, the Fundación Corresponsables has had a Technical Committee made up by 25 experts on Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainability at the Spanish and international level, which carried out a detailed analysis of the initiatives. Later, the prize-awarding jury, made up by 62 academics from the Corporate Social Responsibility field, selected the prize-winning candidatures.

The “Premios Corresponsables” constitute an instance of the many initiatives which all kind of organizations make on the issue of Corporate Social Responsibility, many of which are not noticed. That is why, prizes like these are required for making them known for a wider audience.

The Environmental Impact Calculator

CORREOS has carried out the Life Cycle Analysis for some of its products, identifying the service’s variables which influence on their environmental impact.

In this way, an Environmental Impact Calculator has been designed which, depending on the origin, weight, destination, kind of packaging and the postal shipment’s collection and delivery mode, makes possible to assess the impact on five categories of environmental impact (acidification, eutrophication, global heating, ozone layer destruction, and photochemical) which a specific shipment or campaign has.

Thanks to these calculations, CORREOS is capable of measuring the environmental burden of a product during all its life cycle, setting them off for the precise amounts, and thus turn it into a “carbon-neutral shipment”.
