Inauguration of the “Nights at the Horse Racestracks” with five night horse races
  • From Thursday 30th and until the end of 2016, horse races at HZ will be broadcasted live through ABC.es
  • Exclusive terraces with the best views in Madrid, music and much more, every Thursday until August 11th, with the admission ticket at 10 €

Tomorrow, June 30th, will start the first race meeting of the summer season at the HIPÓDROMO DE LA ZARZUELA, with the contest of five races on the sand and fiber track, and which will begin at 10:15 pm. The facility will open its doors at 8:30 pm.

The 'Noches del Hipódromo' (Nights at the Horse Racetrack) have become one of the main Madrid’s summer attractions due to its privileged location, just nine kilometers away from the city’s center and with the best views on Madrid, and which combines the exclusive atmosphere of Madrid’s night scene with the spectacle of night horse racing.

The emotion will begin with the first race, the Premio Cabo Cañaveral, which will be run on a 1,100 meter-long distance and with the participation of six thoroughbreds, in which once again we find Otro Gintonic as one of the main favorites. He is a great sprinter both on grass and on sand, having won this prize twice, in 2013 and in 2014, and he is bent on winning this year, in which he already records two consecutive second places, and this time he seems to be better placed for winning.

As escorts we single out Captain Moonlite, who also stands out on this type of surface and which arrives as the twice winner on the Dos Hermanas’ track on May, and The MIracle, who this year has been eluded by triumph but which might give the surprise.

This will be followed by Premio Rochetto, which is reserved to horsewomen and gentlemen, with eleven participants who must cover 1,650 meters. Miliki, who moves well on this track, and Nortron, despite a very poor debut in Spain in the Premio Urquijo, might make up the winning twin.

One 1,800 meter-long handicap will be divided between the Premio Terre de France with eleven candidates (third race) and the Premio Álvaro Díez with twelve (fourth race). Petrosian, Alabarda and Sonajas stand out in the second part; and Mythical Clover, Artesa and Kingkaye, as a surprise, in the first part, whose winner will be the basis for the horse riding bet Lototurf.

The Premio Taittinger – Brabant of the fifth race, on a 1,900 meter-long distance, will constitute the closing for this first night at Madrid’s horse racetracks, and will have fourteen participants. The odds point to Lady Shaana, Ayr Nyger, and to Corona de Damas, as the potential winning threesome.

From this next Thursday June 30th, the first night race meeting, and until the end of the calendar envisaged for the year 2016, all aficionados to horse racing will be able to enjoy the live broadcast of the race meetings contested at Madrid’s racetracks through the website ABC.es in streaming, thanks to a collaboration agreement concluded between HIPÓDROMO DE LA ZARZUELA and the ABC daily on June 13th.

HIPÓDROMO DE LA ZARZUELA and Grupo SEPI

HIPÓDROMO DE LA ZARZUELA is part of Patrimonio Histórico Nacional, and its grandstands are regarded as one of Madrid’s twentieth Century architectural masterpieces. The facility covers a 110-hectare surface with a high ecological value, the equivalent to 110 soccer fields, and it has first-level facilities on a privileged location within the city of Madrid, which means that the horse racetracks constitute the most important green lung of the Spanish capital, together with the historical El Retiro Park.

HIPÓDROMO DE LA ZARZUELA belongs to Grupo SEPI, a corporate holding, which is made up by a total of 16 state-owned companies in which it has direct, majority shareholding participations, with a workforce of around 73,000 professionals in 2014; the Spanish state-owned television and radio corporation, Corporación Radiotelevisión Española, which is attached to SEPI, and one public foundation. Equally, SEPI has direct minority shareholdings in a further ten companies, and indirect ones in more than another one hundred companies.
