NAVANTIA delivers the offshore support vessel to “Petróleos Mexicanos”

NAVANTIA and PMI (Petróleos Mexicanos) have signed today the delivery of the Offshore Support Vessel (OSV) christened “Orgullo Petrolero”, which has been built at the shipyards on the Ría de Ferrol. This delivery takes place once the sea trials have been satisfactorily implemented, as well as the enlargement works agreed with the customer.
The construction of this vessel has required more than 1 Million hours of work, besides of 130,000 hours for Engineering, and has meant the return to the civil ship construction at the Ría de Ferrol, after a 12 year hiatus.
The OSV or floating hotel is a polyvalent and technologically advanced vessel, capable of providing lodging during long periods of time to around 700 workers on the offshore oil fields. The vessel, which features a DP3 dynamic positioning capability, has as its main goal to provide the maximum comfort at sea; to this end it features cabins, leisure and relax rooms, which guarantee the high habitability level required. Furthermore, it has got a gangway for providing access to the OSV’s personnel to the oil rigs to which it provides support.

Currently, the shipyards at the Ría de Ferrol, after the conclusion of the construction of the OSV for Pemex, are building an offshore patrol vessel (OPV) for the Spanish Navy, and are building several blocks for the Suezmax oil tankers. On the other hand, during the next few months work will begin on the construction of two Cantabria-class Auxiliary Oiler Replenishment Vessels (AORs) for Australia; these vessels will be wholly built at the Ría de Ferrol, after winning the contract last May, in a hard contested international bid.
On the other hand, at the Fene facilities work is taking place on the offshore wind power industry, in the program for the construction of 5 floating substructures for Statoil/ Hywind. There exists also a contract already in force with Iberdrola, whose construction stage will begin in a few months, for the construction of 42 jackets for the East Anglia offshore wind farm. Furthermore, another contract has been signed for the construction of 4 jackets for Siemens Wind Power, which will soon start.
