NAVANTIA signs the contract for the construction of two auxiliary oiler replenishment ships for Australia

NAVANTIA and the Australian Government have signed the contract for the design and construction of two Auxiliary Oiler Replenishment (AOR) ships, as well as for their maintenance for an initial five-year period. The AORs are based on the “BAC Cantabria” built by NAVANTIA for the Spanish Navy, adapted to certain Australian requirements.
These contracts include a significant participation of the Australian industry, which will be in charge of the development of the combat and communication systems, as well as of some logistical areas and of the deck loading cranes with the company Baker and Provan.
With regard to the maintenance contract, it will be integrally carried out in Australia (New South Wales and Western Australia) through the affiliated company NAVANTIA Australia and subcontractors with which NAVANTIA already has got an excellent relationship since 2007, when the first contracts in Australia were concluded.
NAVANTIA, the reference designer for the Royal Australian Navy
With this contract, NAVANTIA reinforces its position as the reference designer for the Royal Australian Navy. These two ships will join the two Landing Helicopter Docks (LHD), three destroyers (DDG), and the 12 landing crafts (LLC), also designed by NAVANTIA. NAVANTIA is proud of its participation in the development of the Australian naval capabilities.
NAVANTIA has a significant presence in Australia, including the Technical Operations Center at Adelaide, which will play a key role in the development of the future activities linked to shipbuilding, supplying the experience and knowledge for facing the future projects.
NAVANTIA continues fully committed with Australia, and will continue proving its capability to deliver ships to the RAN. NAVANTIA looks forward to continue collaborating with the Commonwealth and with the Australian industry.
