NAVANTIA begins its activities for the tender for the future Australian frigates

The Commonwealth and NAVANTIA have signed the agreement for carrying out the RRDS (Risk Reduction and Design Study) feasibility studies for the program for the future SEA 5000 frigates. This phase is part of the bid began by the Australian department of defense, which in turn has concluded similar agreements with the other two participant companies, Fincantieri (Italy) and BAE Systems (United Kingdom).

Under this agreement, and during a one-year period, the Commonwealth and NAVANTIA will work together, thus allowing the Australian department of defense to assess the capabilities, risks, and other issues related to NAVANTIA’s proposal.

This agreement takes place within the framework of the announcement made by the Australian Prime Minister, Mr. Malcolm Turnbull, as a result of which NAVANTIA and the above mentioned companies were selected for taking part in this RRDS process.
NAVANTIA’s participation in this program represents a significant landmark for the NAVANTIA’s future in Australia, since it provides the opportunity for taking part in the most relevant surface combat vessels program currently underway. This program will make it possible to NAVANTIA Australia to continue with the development of its capabilities, as well as with its Operational and Design Center, which will play an active role in this design phase.
