TRAGSA carries out the refurbishment of an emblematic building as a hotel in Guayaquil (Ecuador)
  • The work performed focused on refurbishing as a new hotel the Hospicio Corazón de Jesús building, preserving the cultural and urban areas in its surrounding área

The architectonical and urban area of Guayaquil’s Historical Park, in Ecuador, is the venue of one of its most representative buildings, the Hospicio Corazón de Jesús. The use of this building, in keeping with the goals of the state-owned company Empresa Pública de Parques Urbanos y Espacios Públicos and seeking to promote the use of the park’s facilities, has become a boutique hotel, in accordance with the cultural spaces which surround it.

With this goal, and under the title 'Adecuación y Operación del Hotel del Parque', (Refurbishment and Operation of the Park’s Hotel) TRAGSA was awarded the works required for its being turned into a hotel, respecting its original features.

Scope of the Project

During the works the condition of the existing wood was reviewed, seeing which structures had to be dismounted and analyzing the most adequate methods for carrying out these works without damaging the original wood. At the same time, a further metallic structure was built for supporting the fire prevention boxes, the parlors’ doors, the railings and the ventilators, making sure that all the items were securely fixed.

Once the basement was preserved, cement was put for holding the existing cement ribs. Then, the work on the flagstones began, without altering the architectonic heights. The existing cover was dismounted and replaced with tiles.

Finally, the facilities required for the correct operation of the hotel have been refurbished and readied, among them the electricity wiring, the water or the air conditioning system. At this moment work is being carried out for refurbishing the corridors, public spaces and bedrooms, besides on the construction of the stairways and the elevators.
