NAVANTIA develops a novel training system for the engine room’s personnel
01 April 2016 | Madrid
- Called NAVANTIS, it is NAVANTIA’s proposal for unifying crews’ training into a single product
- Unlike other bridge simulators available on the market, NAVANTIS is based on a generic and modular hardware, which makes possible to use the same training room in navigation for multiple vessels, just implementing a different software
NAVANTIA Sistemas has developed NAVANTIS from the current Platform Control simulators and with the focus mostly on training the engine room’s personnel; this is a novel system which expands the training capabilities to the virtualization of the most complete and complex physical control position on a ship: the navigating bridge.
From the recreation of a natural environment, with different weather conditions which affect the pilots’ visibility, such as rain, clouds, fog, and lightning situations at any time during the day or at night, as well as such meteorological agents as the wind, the sea conditions and the ocean currents, which affect the vessel’s movement, NAVANTIA proposes a modular and continuous tactical surface called “Glass Console” thus having a single facility which can be easily configured for representing any bridge console from all those ships in which it is required to carry out training exercises.
This bridge training room, together with the attached training engine control room, will carry out in a joint, collaborative and synchronized way, the same exercises starting from the scenarios designed by the instructors.
Sistema NAVANTIS
The NAVANTIS System might be installed on the Navies’ Naval Bases or Training Centers, which can be interconnected in order to jointly work in real time within the same natural virtual environment. The above opens up the opportunity for training different crews in those maneuvers in which several ships are involved.
A perfect example of these practices are the resupply at sea between two ships, which does not just require a high level of skill in the maneuver of bringing the ships closer and aligning them, but which also requires precise actions for transferring the fuel or other liquids operating on the SICP.
Thus the way is open for NAVANTIA including new items to the training sessions once NAVANTIA’s Combat Systems enter on the NAVANTIS stage. In this way, the “Integrated Training” would become a reality at the highest level.
About NAVANTIA
NAVANTIA constitutes a world reference in the design, construction and integration of warships with a high-technological content, as well as ship repairs and upgrades. Besides, its activity lines include the design and manufacturing of combat and command and control systems, integrated platform management systems, firing control systems, propulsion engines and the Life Cycle Support for all its products. Although its main activity is in the naval field, NAVANTIA also designs and manufactures systems for the Army and the Air Force.
NAVANTIA is part of Grupo SEPI, a corporate holding which includes a total of 16 state-owned companies in which it has direct, majority shareholding participations, with a workforce of around 73,000 professionals in 2014; the Spanish state-owned television and radio corporation, Corporación Radiotelevisión Española, which is attached to SEPI, and one public foundation. Equally, SEPI has direct minority shareholdings in a further ten companies, and indirect shareholdings in more than one hundred companies.
