NAVANTIA has organized this week in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia) an “Industry Day”, with the goal of promoting the links between Saudi companies and the Spanish suppliers for the future program for the corvettes Avante 2200 class for the Saudi Navy, in which NAVANTIA wants to participate.
The goal of the symposium was, on the one hand, to identify potential collaborations for the supply of parts and components for the Saudi vessels and on the other, exploring the potential transfer of technology which includes the joint production of equipment, systems, and support to the life cycle.
In the “Industry Day” have participated more than 150 persons, from 45 Saudi companies and 27 Spanish ones. Among the Saudi representatives stood out the Director General for Industrial Promotion at the Department of Defense, the commodore Atiya Al Malki and the head of the Projects Department at the Saudi Navy, the commodore Mohamed Alasaf, who were escorted by a number of officers from different departments from the Saudi Navy. On the Spanish side, the symposium was attended by the captain Manuel Martínez Ruiz, from the General Department for Weapons and Material (the Spanish Department of Defense).
The program whose award NAVANTIA seeks to win will involve the construction of a series of five units of the Avante 2200, based on the one built by NAVANTIA for Venezuela, and thus it is an already tested design. It is worthwhile to mention that the Combat System on offer is the CATIZ, wholly designed by NAVANTIA Sistemas.
The Spanish companies which have attended the symposium are: Abance, Buqueland, Coasa Naval, Detegasa, Fernández Jove Group, Frizonia, Gabadi, Gauzón Ibérica, Ghenova, Hilti, Hinesur, Ibercisa, Indra, Industrias Ferri, Matagorda Solutions, MTU, N. S. Lourdes, Norinver Montajes e Ingeniería, Pine Pro Electrónica Sur, Rolls-Royce Naval Marine Servoship Suardiaz Group, Surcontrol, Tecnobit, Verlicoa, Zodiac, Milpro.
