  • Ms. Platero meets the shipyards’ workers representatives

The Chairwoman of the state-owned industrial holding company Sociedad Estatal de Participaciones Industriales, Ms. Pilar Platero, began this morning the round of visits to NAVANTIA’s shipyards, starting with the facilities at the Bay of Cadiz for reason of the launching of the offshore patrol vessel (BAM in Spanish) “Audaz”, which will be sponsored this afternoon by the Defense Minister, Ms. María Dolores Cospedal.

This ship is the fifth in the BAM class of a series of six to be ordered by the Spanish Navy. The sixth is being built at the Ferrol shipyard, and its launch is expected in the coming months.

SEPI’s Chairwoman has held meetings with the representatives of the shipyards’ workers at the Bay of Cadiz, asking about their concerns and about the facilities’ activity, pointing out that as of today, all of them stay open and have a workload.

She also pointed out that SEPI is promoting a Strategic Plan which seeks to reinforce NAVANTIA’s efficiency and sustainability, expanding its impact on the economic areas on which its shipyards are located.

The Strategic Plan will have as its goal the preservation of all the facilities, the generation of new jobs which meet the requirements set by the new technologies, and winning new orders in order to increase the current workload.

The Strategic Plan will also deal with a Training Plan aimed at reinforcing the Company’s strategic capabilities, as well as Digital Transformation Plan 4.0 for improving NAVANTIA’s processes, products, and business model.

At the same time, SEPI will continue promoting a fluid dialogue with the workers’ representatives aimed at reaching agreements for reinforcing NAVANTIA’s competitiveness.

Finally, Ms. Platero expressed her satisfaction and congratulated NAVANTIA’s workers for the effort made in the construction of the ship which is to be launched today and which will be completed in the coming months until its delivery to the Spanish Navy.
