Historical Library
Its origin was linked from the start to INI’s establishment in 1941 to the interest in promoting the personnel skills and to the search of the knowledge demanded for starting the industrial activities on which the Instituto was interested about.
The specialized documentation collections compiled by the Library and the Journals Collection were organized in 1942 in the Information and Statistical subsection, attached to the Technical Department. In 1961, the Social Affairs Department began to operate a Library for the personnel of a general nature, with encyclopedias, dictionaries, atlases, literature, philosophy, religion, sociology, etc.
The need of providing the required training to the managers, technicians and employees in general generated a large interest in being up to date with the scientific and technical novelties, both in Europe and in the rest of the world.
It includes monographies and grey or non-commercial literature, made up for the most part by publications edited by INI: speeches by its chairmen, reports on its companies, industrial sectors, regional development, etc.; among them stand out the document collections of INI’s Technical Department and those of the Studies Department.
It is possible to consult the collections, with information about the books, journals articles and documents, through a search in our Catalogue
Historical journals collection
Since its start, INI’s activity generated a journals collection oriented to the different industrial sectors in which INI took part, originating one of the best collections of industrial themed journals.
The titles span a wide selection of areas, with a large sample in the first years of American, British, Italians, French, Swiss, or German journals.
It is possible to access to the more than 400 titles which make up the Historical Journals Collection through the Hemeroteca Histórica
Journals published by INI
INI produced many journals, on which it sought to show its activity in the domestic economy and on which it was possible to read translations of news and book reviews, in an attempt of not being isolated from the intellectual trends of that time.
Of the journals edited by INI, the one which recorded the largest coverage was titled “Revista de información del Instituto Nacional de Industria” (1947-1970). This institutional journal provides much information about the companies: their corporate image, the technical novelties at the time, cultural and artistic issues, new fields of knowledge, new materials and construction techniques, the advertisement of their products and the propaganda of their activities.
It is possible to consult the titles published by INI through the search in our catalogue of Revistas publicadas por el INI
