In the spring, the Madrid’s horse racetrack inaugurated the new pelousse –a large prairie, with a surface of almost 6,000 square meters located between the stands and the track and which allows a first-row watching of the races – and appointed its Ambassadors among renowned professionals from different fields and who were singled out for their passion for horses, such as Mr. Cayetano Martínez de Irujo, Ms. Ágatha Ruiz de la Prada, Mr. David Meca, Mr. Miguel Ángel Perera, or Ms. Carmen Jordá. During the autumn, it is envisaged that the celebration will continue with the inauguration of the Museo Torroja, which will highlight the work carried out by this engineer, who was the author of the horse racetrack’s building, National Prize of Architecture, and the publication of an anniversary commemorative book.
Hipódromo de La Zarzuela constitutes, without any doubt, one of the most emblematic places in Madrid, and it has been part of the life of Madrid’s society of the last Century. Its grand stands, which were designed by the architects Mr. Carlos Arniches and Mr. Martín Domínguez and by the engineer Mr. Eduardo Torroja, have been declared as heritage of cultural interest (BIC in Spanish), and are regarded as one of the masterpieces of Madrid’s architecture in the 20th Century, since they constituted a large progress for its time.
