ENSA will manufacture four tanks for ITER’s Water Detritiation System

Equipos Nucleares, S.A. (ENSA) has been awarded the final project for manufacturing and supplying four tanks for the Water Detritiation System corresponding to the ITER project; two high-level tanks and two feeding tanks.
The Cantabrian located company has concluded this contract after being subjected to a tender procedure launched by Fusion for Energy (F4E), the EU’s agency which manages European contribution to ITER.
With this new contract, ENSA consolidates itself as one of the main European manufacturers of parts and components for large scientific facilities, such as ITER.
The quality of its components, the fulfillment of the delivery terms, the commitment with innovation and the technological development of this company from Cantabria have played a key role in winning this award.
In March 2015 the tanks manufactured by ENSA for the Tritiated Water System became the first European components to be delivered for the ITER, which is currently one of the most important civilian platforms.
ITER has as its goal testing the feasibility of fusion energy as a sustainable energy source, before the building of a commercial demonstration plant.
Grupo SEPI
ENSA belongs to Grupo SEPI, a corporate holding which includes a total of 15 state-owned companies in which it has direct, majority shareholding participations, with a workforce of more than 73,000 professionals in 2015; the Spanish state-owned television and radio corporation, Corporación Radiotelevisión Española, which is attached to SEPI, and one public foundation. Equally, SEPI has direct minority shareholdings in a further nine companies, and indirect shareholdings in more than one hundred companies.
Fusion for Energy
It is the European Union agency in charge of managing European contribution to ITER. One of F4E’s main tasks is working jointly with the European industry, SMEs and research organisms for developing and supplying a wide range of high-technology components, besides of engineering, maintenance and support services for the ITER project. F4E supports R&D initiatives for fusion through the widest scope Framework agreement ever concluded with Japan, and it is getting ready for building fusion demonstration reactors (DEMO).
F4E was set up as a legal person as a result of a Decision from the European Union Council, and was incorporated in April 2007 for a 35-year long period. Its offices are located in Barcelona, Spain.
