The Historical Archive of Minas de Almadén (MAYASA), declared an Heritage of Cultural Interest

The regional Government of Castilla La Mancha passed, on May 24th, the declaration of the Archivo Histórico de las Minas de Almadén y Arrayanes as a Heritage of Cultural Interest within the Collection category.

The Historical Archive of Minas de Almadén (MAYASA) is to be found at the San Rafael Royal Hospital for Miners, a splendid 18th century building which was declared a Heritage of Cultural Interest within the Monument category in 1992.

The Archive is made up by an extensive number of documents, with more than 100,000 files, which goes back to the 17th century and which represents a valuable information source for knowing about the exploit of mines during a long historical period.

With the declaration of the Heritage of Cultural Interest it is sought to provide the maximum protection level to this important documental and bibliographic heritage and prevent its potential break up or the partial or total removal of its current premises of this unique archive.

The Real Hospital de Mineros de San Rafael can be visited together with the remaining facilities of Almadén’s Mining Park, or on its own.

MAYASA and Grupo SEPI

MAYASA belongs to Grupo SEPI, a corporate holding which includes a total of 16 state-owned companies in which it has direct, majority shareholding participations, with a workforce of around 73,000 professionals in 2014; the Spanish state-owned television and radio corporation, Corporación Radiotelevisión Española, which is attached to SEPI, and one public foundation. Equally, SEPI has direct minority shareholdings in a further ten companies, and indirect shareholdings in more than one hundred companies.
